Easter sail

Beautiful day 70+, light winds, significant trafic on the lake (now I remember why I only want to sail on weekdays). We sailed North from the yacht club to Tanasi clubhouse then back up the lake to a cove just north of the power line cove. Dropped the hook in 12′ (mud bottom) and enjoyed a very relaxing lunch away from the noise and bussle on the main channel.

Warm & Wind Together!

Richard -Sunny 70+ Wind – 5-9

20 March 2010 | Telico Lake, TN

We just returned from a trip to Rhode island and today was spectacular – Warm, sunny, nice breeze. Karl Heye and I took to the lake for a little R&R and his first sailing adventure. The Mac didn’t show any nasty tendencies and I was finally able to stretch out some of the wrinkles and get her up to speed. We got to the lake about 5pm and by 5:15, we were under sail and cruising at 5mph. The wind was pretty steady out of the SE and varied from 5-9mph just about perfect for a gentle first lesson for Karl. We sailed 3 miles down lake to the power lines and then back upstream to Lauderback Cove. The wind died at 7 as the sun dropped into the incoming clouds. Temp dropped, no wind – motored back to the Yacht Club.

Great day!

Spring Fever

Richard -Sunny 60 Wind – Less than 1

20 February 2010 | Telico Lake, TN

Finally, a break in the weather and a sunny day in the upper 50’s lured us to Silver Lining to see how she faired the winter. It has been the coldest winter in over 100 years in East Tennessee with 15 straight days staying below freezing and sub-freezing temps nearly every night since early December.

We fired up the motor and cleaned the interior. Finally removed the Christmas lights and packed them away for next year. After spiffing up the boat, we cruised up the lake toward Jackson Bend and back to our slip. No wind to speak of but it felt really good to be on the water.

I will return to the boat tomorrow to remove the tiller for re-finishing and will re-drill the hole for the VHF antenna mount so it will be more secure.

A nice break from the winter doldrums.

Lets get started….

I intend this blog to be a collection of notes on my observations and opinions that may well cover territory from sailing to politics to family matters, eBay or current affairs – you just never know what topic might pop into my demented mind at any given moment. In other words, nothing of particular importance unless you are interested in learning what makes me tick.

Keep in mind that the thoughts and opinions are my own and are likely to offend some while delighting others. The goal is to cause you (and me) to exercise the stuff between our ears and to have a little fun while doing it.

So, sit back and have a little fun

Christmas Parade

13 Decorated boats participated in the holiday boat parade. We assembled at the Yacht Club about 5:30 and cruised up the lake about 4.5 miles and back. Everything from our little 19 footer to a 70 foot houseboat. We returned around 7:30 to a party at the packed bar in the club.

Cruising North

No wind but too nice a day to stay home. Mary & I cruised down the lake to the Hwy 321 bridge and had a picnic lunch. Then back upstream to the marina – about 3 hours and we completed out 10 hour break-in in the motor so that should be ready to run whenever we want.

Finally! Under sail

13 October 2009 | Tellico Lake

Finally, after a month of retirement and projects around the Tellico house, we took a couple of hours to go sailing this afternoon. I even got the Admiral to steer for a bit. As expected, I have to learn how to sail this boat and the light air didn’t do much for performance. We did learn a bit about sail trim and met Paul in this Harbor 20 on the water.

Wednesday morning and time for a shakedown cruise on the lake. Jim Hatchell and Zack joined me for a 3 hour motor cruise (light winds) to see the sights and get some low-speed break-in time on the motor.

Excellent cruise – makes us want more.
