Key West Trip Day-2

A perfect St. Simon's sunset

A perfect St. Simon’s sunset

Friday April 5 we headed South toward Brunswick Georgia and warmer weather.

A largely uneventful trip found us following I-85 to I-77 at Charlotte then to I-26 at Columbia, South Carolina where we started noticing heavier Northbound traffic.

When we hit I-95 South, the Northbound side looked more like a parking lot than an interstate highway.  We, however continued to cruise steadily all the way to Brunswick, Georgia our planned destination for our first Southbound day.  Everything was in order at our motel and after settling in, we set out for the REAL reason we stopped here, St. Simons Island!

The food is great here!

The food is great here!

Mary and I had visited St. Simons in February and were anxious to spend a little time wandering around town and watching the sunset here.  Oh, did I mention the food is fantastic too – we stopped at the Bluewater Grill just in time for happy hour (what a lucky break) and a bowl of great She Crab Soup – yum!  Seafood and salads, wraps and fish burritos filled in the interval between soup and BREAD PUDDING – double yum.

Following our caloric overdose, we walked along the pier watching the wonderful sunset and a pod of porpoise swimming through schools of bait fish.  Another stroll around the village completed our tour of St. Simons then we were off to the motel and a great end to our day.
