OK, Knoxville isn’t exactly a “Big” city but compared to Loudon, it is enormous. The annual Dogwood Festival Home Show took place at the Knoxville Convention Center and provided us with a reasonable excuse to venture into Knoxville for the day.
As usual, the home show was a mix of “Infomercials”, useful information and displays. All of it fun to browse and several that required a more detailed look. We resisted the temptation to purchase the newest kitchen gadgets and to order a $50,000 patio upgrade – maybe next year.
After working up a thirst, we walked the 4 blocks back to Gay Street for lunch and a brew at the Downtown Pub and Brewery. Hamburgers were the choice of the day washed down with their “Downtown Brown” beer and accompanied by fantastic fresh-baked HOT soft pretzels with a cheese dip! Oh cholesterol, where is thy sting.
Onward to the art gallery, Mast General store and a quick pass through Morelock Music while walking off the lunch.
Then over one block to Market Square for a touch of Marble Slab ice cream and a serenade by one-man-band Crispy Watkins playing the Banjo, Kazoo, Bass drum and Tambourine in a medley of old timey and blues numbers. Did I mention he sings too?
Just a spectacular February Saturday around 60 degrees, clear and sunny. We really love getting out on a day like this and enjoying an afternoon wandering around downtown Knoxville before heading home to Tellico Village.
Come join us some lazy Saturday.
Hi Mary & Richard – sounds great – mostly yummy!
