On our recent trip to the Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge area, we discovered a great Mexican restaurant called “No Way Jose’s Cantina”.
Jose’s place is at traffic light #5 on the Parkway in Gatlinburg (that’s how they tell you how to find a place up there). It is tucked between the Little Pigeon River and the Greystone Lodge near the Ripley’s Aquarium.
We began with margaritas. Frozen, of course with salt on the rim just the way we like em. Not too sweet, not too tart, just right!
The chips and salsa made their appearance shortly and we were pleased. The chips were light and crispy and the salsa was homemade with chunky peppers, tomatoes and onions plus cilantro – a real treat for us as most of the Mexican restaurants in our area get their salsa from a can.
Mary loves tamales but Jose only serves chicken tamales and she was a bit skeptical. Our waiter said, “Try it, you’ll like it!” Mary tried it and she did really like it along with an enchilada and sides.
I am an enchilada freak and my favorite are cheese enchiladas. Most of the time, I only see them as an add-on in a multi-enchilada set. Here, they are available on their own in a nice dinner with sides. Very good!
The food was delicious and well prepared of fresh high quality ingredients. This was just one of several pleasant surprises in Gatlinburg this week.
Enchiladas Rancheras – cheese enchiladas topped with beef or chicken in the mole sauce and served with the usual sides. Best meal ever from El Maguay in Pfafftown. Miss them like crazy every time we eat Mexican here. I must have inherited your love of enchiladas 🙂
If you decide to go to NC to get some, be sure to come bye here and we’ll go visit Jose!
Yum! We’ve have to go sometime! Cute pic of Mary, then again, she’s so cute!
