Wednesday the 7th was the last 2011 gathering of the Tellico Bluegrass Band.
This is really getting to be a fun jam session and as we become more familiar with one another and our individual styles and limitations, our music is beginning to take on a life of its own.
Before each session Andy, our lead banjo player emails us a “Topic” for new songs at the next jam. This week, the topic was drinking and jail – bluegrass has a lot of songs on these topics.
Some of the new material this week was “Tequila makes her clothes fall off” (not sure this counts as bluegrass but it is on topic), “Poor Ellen Smith”, “Shackles and Chains” and that great Christmas classic “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer”.
We may be just a bunch of old folks playing music but we do really have fun.
I think you could turn just about any country song into bluegrass by adding a hefty dose of banjo 🙂
And old people that can’t carry a tune!
