The Saturday after Thanksgiving in Sweetwater, Tennessee is the time for the “Small Town Christmas” celebration.
This year, the weather was in the upper 60s and clear so the turnout was large and the merchants happy.
The annual Christmas kickoff is marked by lots of homemade cookies, hot chocolate and a steady parade of music from the gazebo in the center of the historic downtown area in Sweetwater.
The stores are open all evening and the small merchants welcome visitors with treats, music and smiles. Horse-drawn carriages paraded along Main Street while children explores a 1930’s fire engine or took hay rides in tractor pulled wagons. Ladies in hoop skirts pass out treats while “Soldiers” in Confederate gray stroll the festivities and children dance to entertain everyone. A great evening in small town USA.
